One day I left the city. I had had enough of the hustle and bustle and craved "being" in nature. In Zeist, I found myself at the edge of a quiet patch of forest. I walked there for days without encountering a human being. The forest became like my backyard.
The course of the seasons created an ever-changing picture. The light and colors changed constantly. No day was the same. Always there was a new perspective or element that stood out. This photo series is the result of my daily walks through the forest. Not that photography was my main occupation; on the contrary, I was mainly experiencing.
I gazed into the morning sun, did Qi gong exercises on the heath, walked barefoot across the sand, listened to the birds flying by and rested against old beeches.
The result is an intimate portrait of the abundant variety of nature. With rain in autumn, fresh leaves in spring and thick snow in winter. The world would come to an end in 2012, doomsayers on the Internet predicted. That day it was foggy and chillingly quiet in the forest. As often happens, the atmosphere in the forest matched the situation in the big bad outside world. But nature never stops and continued to change immediately the next day, always fresh and new.
