From 1985 to 1990 I attended the art academy in Utrecht, the HKU. After the first year, I chose photography and audiovisual as my major. It was a broad-based course, in which I was taught to make feature films, documentaries, animation films, slide shows and photography.

I was a student who wanted to tell something meaningful with images. I did not feel like a photographer, but saw photography as a means of expressing of what was living inside me. In addition to the academy, I took courses and workshops. For example, I learned about Carl Jung during a course in dream psychology and attended the workshops centered around composer John Cage at the Conservatory in The Hague.

The visualization of music was a theme that interested me from the beginning. The love of music runs like a thread through my life. After art school, together with Eric Holtman I started the foundation 'Mooie dingen enzo' with which we organized art projects where music and images came together. The first major project was a collaboration with composer Richard Rijnvos, resulting in the slide show 'for Samuel Beckett'.

In addition to art projects, I worked for Dutch radio and later on for a short while for television. This is how I got to meet Jules de Corte and Bram Vermeulen. Their music would later inspire me to make many music videos.
